Testosterone is for SEX, NOT muscle: The Truth about Testosterone & Masculinity

Ever felt overwhelmed when trying to remember all of the different things needed to boost testosterone? Ever felt like there were just too many factors to consider?

Well, many men struggle with low and declining testosterone (S, S, S, S), primarily because they don’t even know WHY testosterone exists in the first place.

They are under the impression that testosterone exists solely to make men muscular, stronger, faster, bigger, more fearless. And although testosterone indeed does those things, it is not its evolutionary purpose.

You can be the biggest, fastest, most muscular person or animal in the world, but if you cannot pass on those genes to the next generation, your line ends. Everything special about you vanishes into oblivion the moment you die.

So no, testosterone didn’t evolve to make you “big” or muscular just for the sake of it. It evolved primarily to make you pass on your genes — in short, to make you pursue and have sex.

The bigger muscles, the increased energy and motivation, the higher red blood cell count etc., everything testosterone is known for, are just means to an end. Testosterone “gives” you those things because we evolved to need those IN ORDER to pass on our genes.

The stronger, faster, bigger, more energetic, and more fearless a man was, the higher his chance of finding a mate and fighting off rivals. But if those features didn’t help him reproduce, or if they hindered his ability to reproduce, testosterone would NOT have evolved to create such changes in the organism.

This is why if you inject testosterone into different animals, you will get different morphological and behavioral changes. Some will get bigger, some will change colors, some will sing more, some will dance more, some will grow horns or bigger canines etc. It all depends on what that organism NEEDS in order to pass on “his” genes, in “his” specific environment.

What does all of this have to do with increasing testosterone, which is the goal of most people reading this article? Well, once you understand the GOAL of testosterone, you will automatically know the things that you must do in order to keep testosterone elevated.

Will a bad diet help you pass on your genes faster? or will it enhance your chances of finding a mate? Then it doesn’t take rocket science to figure out that a crappy diet will decrease your testosterone levels.

Will sleeping like crap, avoiding sunlight, being sedentary, being deficient in micronutrients etc. help you outcompete other men, find a mate, and reproduce? then it doesn’t take rocket science to figure out that those things are terrible for testosterone production.

In short, you don’t have to memorize all of the things that are needed to increase testosterone. You don’t have to get a degree in biology or physiology. You just have to apply common sense.

Before you eat something or do something, just ask yourself “Will this activity or food put me in a better competitive position when it comes to reproduction and attracting a mate”? If the answer is yes, then chances are it is good for you. If the answer is no, then avoid it. This alone will lead you in the right direction 90% of the time.
